Residence permit and all kinds of visas
X
visa:
Study visa, suitable for
foreigners who come to study in China for six months or more. Usually
this is applied for by submitting form jw201 or JW202, as well as the
Admission notice, to the Chinese embassy or consulate in the foreigner's
country. Any student holding an X visa must apply for a foreigner
residence permit within 30 days of entering China, or be subject to
penalties;
F visa:
Visiting
visa, suitable for students taking refresher courses or doing practicums
of six months or less. this visa can be applied for by submitting form
or JW202, as well as the Admission notice, to the Chinese embassy
or consulate in the foreigner's country. the f visa duration of validity
begins when the foreigner enters China. It may be extended, at most,
three months at a time. The longest allowable extension extends to
fifteen days after completion of study. The longest stay possible for a
foreigner with an f visa is one year.
L
visa: Tourist
visa, suitable for tourists. Usually foreigners holding l visas may not
enroll for study. Those with special reasons must receive approval from
the entry and exit visa administrative office of the Guilin public
security bureau before applying for the residence permit;
Foreigner residence permit: Foreigners studying more than half a
year in China must apply for the residence permit. Foreigners can apply
for residence permits valid from a half to five years;

>Visa and
Residence Permit's Application & Extension
Those who meet the requirements for visa, residence permit application
or extension must come to the office of the College of International Education twenty days in advance to print (or fill out) the foreigner
visa (residence) application form and receive the official seal;
Take passport, form JW202 and foreigner visa (residence)
application form to the entry and exit visa administrative office of the Guilin
Public Security Bureau to apply for the extension of visa or the
residence permit, and pay the processing fee (about 500—1,000 RMB);
One week after applying, go to the entry and exit visa administrative
office of the Guilin public security bureau to pick up the passport and
residence permit.

>The
procedure for re-entry visa or visa extension
• If
you do not have the residence card and want to return to your Home
country or travel to a third country during your study at the school,
you need to apply for a re-entry visa in advance to be able to enter
China again. If you want to continue your study in China after the
expiry of your visa, you should apply for a visa extension.
• If
you want to apply for a re-entry visa or a visa extension you should go
to the office of enrollment of the College of International Education at
least 15 days in advance with your passport and residence card for a
testimonial.
• You
should present the testimonial together with your passport and residence
card to the entry and exit visa administrative office of the Guilin
public security bureau for the relevant procedures.

>Penalties pertaining to violating residence
Regulations
An X-visa holder who has not applied for a residence permit within
thirty days of arrival, or a holder of an F-visa or a residence card who
has not applied for an extension before the visa's expiration date, is
residing illegally. In dealing with students residing illegally, the
public security bureau will issue a warning in accordance with "Rules
Governing the implementation of the law of the people's republic of
China on the entry and exit of foreigners", or fine the student 500 RMB
for every day of illegal residence (total fine not to exceed 5,000 RMB),
or detain him/her for a period of three to ten days; Serious offenders
will be ordered to leave the country within a specified period;
All information registered on the foreigner residence permit (name,
identity, place of employment, residence address, etc.) cannot be
altered arbitrarily. If there have been changes from the information on
the foreigner residence permit, the permit holder must register the
changes at the local public security bureau within ten days. Otherwise,
he/she will be issued a warning, or fined up to 500 RMB; Serious
offenders will be ordered to leave the country within a specified
period;
When necessary, the public security bureau will notify foreigners to
present their foreigner residence permits to the entry and exit visa
administrative office for inspection. Students should present their
permits before the appointed time. Those who disobey the above rules may
receive a warning or a fine of up to 500 RMB; Serious offenders will be
ordered to leave the country within a specified period.

>Regarding lost passports
International students who lose their passports during their residence in
China should complete the following procedures:
Report the loss to the local public security bureau where the passport
was lost;
Report the loss to the entry and exit visa administrative office of the Guilin public security bureau and pick up certificate of passport loss;
Go to the embassy of the student concerned to apply for a new passport;
Proceed to the entry and exit visa administrative office of the Guilin
public security bureau to conduct visa and residence permit procedures.

>How
to apply issuance
International students who are studying at Guilin University of Technology should carry insurance.
• If
you have already bought international insurance in your Home country,
please submit a photocopy of the relevant documents to the school for a
record;
• If
you have not bought international insurance in your Home country, the
school will provide insurance at the registration. The insurance premium
will be supported by the students.
•
College of International Education would help you to apply insurance at
the beginning of your study at GUT.
